By Saransh & Ravi

Disclaimer: We were preparing for UPSC CSE and never exclusively prepared for JPSC. We prepared for JPSC a while before exam and the focus was on to cover all topics of the syllabus. Based on our experience and in consultation with some of our colleagues we have come out with a list of books and resource.

PRELIMS

GS Paper 1

  • History of India

    • Ancient India & Medieval India – NCERTS or Tamil Nadu Board book,  Lucent's General Knowledge & questions from previous years & also questions from some good test series.

    • Modern History - A Brief History of Modern India by Rajiv Ahir + Factual questions can be done from Ghatna Chakra History book that contains questions from UPPSC, BPSC, JPSC and all are objective type questions

  • Geography of India - NCERT 11& 12th & MRUNAL videos. For Jharkhand related questions a book named Spardha will help in tackling questions. Geography through Maps by Pramod Sharma/ K Siddharta will help in gaining knowledge about places in India (Mountains, Rivers, Minerals, and Wildlife Sanctuary etc.)

  • Indian Polity and Governance - M Laxmikant is enough.

  • Economic and Sustainable Development – Basics can be studied from Sriram coaching notes & Mrunal videos on economics.

  • Science & Technology - - Lucent objective book is more than enough, especially human physiology part.

  • Jharkhand Specific Questions – Refer Paper 2.

  • Current Events - GK today monthly objective questions + Ghatna Chakra current affairs

  • General Questions – Same as above.

GS Paper 2

This is a Jharkhand specific paper. Scoring is very easy. Refer to any book that covers the new syllabus. Since the syllabus was revised in 6th JPSC, not much option was available. We referred to this book (https://www.amazon.in/Jharkhand-G-K-JPSC-PT-Mains-ebook/dp/B07PXN1WBQ/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=jpsc&qid=1598640566&sr=8-2) but it had many errors. We also referred to book on Jharkhand by Spardha Publication which is very good. Also referred to videos for SPT and CNT act. If one has time or if there is any summary, one can refer to Jharkhand’s Economy survey.

State wise current affairs on affairscloud.com is also good for Jharkhand’s Current Affairs. (read last one year).

Solve many objective test papers and analyze your mistakes and try not to repeat them in succeeding tests.

Mains Examination

The main thing is to follow the syllabus and exam format closely. Since there are objective type questions and revise the prelims syllabus as well. One can take the edge of others through this type of questions. There are only a few questions that needs to be written so try to practice writing long answers.

In given booklist, there isn’t need to go into too much detail. Strict adherence to syllabus would save time and energy. Read only those topic mentioned in the syllabus and make notes as per your need. The important thing is to understand the topics with clarity and improvise in the exam with use of examples, illustration, diagram, figures etc.

Prepare everything according to syllabus and one can choose different sources for different topics but one shouldn’t use multiple sources for single topic. One or two sources should be sufficient.

Paper I: General Hindi and General English

This paper is qualifying & doable. One would be good in either English or Hindi.

Paper II - Literature

We had chosen English Literature.

We studied by reading summary, watching videos online. Though it may look difficult but with smart studies it is doable. The same strategy can be applied for other subject. Only issue would be of material.

  • Refer Current affairs material like VisionIAS Economy or internet for scattered topics and latest data, graphs etc. but don’t give lots of time for this.

Paper VI (General Sciences, Environment & Technology Development)

You may need to use internet for scattered topics or refer to any coaching material and make your own notes. Although topics are short, prepare the topic keeping 32 marks long answer in mind.
